A career in law has been one of the most popular options among students of India. Every year, thousands of students enrol for the law entrance exams conducted by law universities in India to take up LLB courses. Considered as a noble profession, a career in law opens the gateway to a plethora of career opportunities. In today's era, the role of a lawyer has evolved and moved away from the traditional black robes and white collars to fancy corporate offices and media houses.

A BA LLB course equips students with the required skills while imparting the necessary legal knowledge of the constitution. The course covers an extensive study of legal procedures, principles, ideals of corporate governance, laws, and regulations of countries. After the five-year law course, a student can opt for one of the many job roles that are open for a law graduate. Here are some of the most popular career opportunities that you can opt for-

Litigation Lawyer-

Litigation lawyers also called as litigators represent plaintiffs and defendants in a civil lawsuit. They handle all aspects of the lawsuit from the investigation, pleadings, and development through the pre-trial, trial, settlement, and appeal means. Litigators also interview witnesses and other parties involved in the case, read depositions, and examine any relevant pieces of information as they prepare for trial. A litigation lawyer must be detail-oriented with excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Most importantly, they must obtain state bar admission from nearby states to practice law.

Corporate Lawyer-

A comparatively newer field, a career in corporate law, can be a very lucrative option. As the name suggests, corporate lawyers are usually involved in commercial law cases to ensure an organization's transactions comply with corporate laws and regulations. The primary duties of a corporate lawyer include developing documents, assessing partnerships, and arranging deals. They also represent the company in legal proceedings and protect the organization from legal risks and violations.

Legal Advisor-

Legal advisors, also referred to as in-house legal counsels or corporate counsels, are essentially lawyers who provide legal guidance to a large corporation or organization. They are usually involved in labor or contract conflicts, compensation issues, harassment lawsuits, or other workplace disputes. They draft and negotiate contracts, ensure compliance with corporate regulations, and provides counsel for managing conflicts.

Public Prosecutor-
Considered as the agent of the state to represent the interest of common people in criminal justice, a public prosecutor's primary responsibility is to provide justice to any group of people or person who is affected by the crime. The role of a public prosecutor is to make an appearance before the court and obtain search and arrest warrants to investigate the case. They are appointed by the state government with statutory duties and act as an independent authority to ensure that justice is delivered.

With so many opportunities opening up, there is a dearth of professional and expert lawyers. The need for savvy law graduates with the needed skills to handle significant positions across diverse sectors has deluged dramatically. So, if you are looking to pursue a career in this field, it is essential that you enroll in the best law universities in India that impart quality education as well as hone practical skills through moot courts and experiential learning.
