The 18650 battery is used by many people for various electronic devices. The 18650 battery cells are well-known for their durability and safety features that ensure the device functions properly. These batteries are made by many leading brands, including the Sanyo 18650 and Energizer 18650 batteries. They are also known as Lithium ion battery. Although these Lithium Ion batteries provide rechargeable power for electronic devices for many years, when did they actually come about?

M.S. Whittingham was the first to come up with the idea of Lithium-ion batteries. Whittingham, from Binghamton University. To power the battery he invented in the 1970s, he used titanium sulfide as well as lithium. Although metallic lithium was good for power, they were not safe and could not be commercially made.

Rachid Yazami, a French scientist who was affiliated with the Grenoble Institute of Technology and the French National Center for Scientific Research, conducted some experiments using intercalation technology that used lithium's electrochemical property and graphite. He published a work within a year which showed that lithium intercalation with graphite could be used to make rechargeable lithium batteries. A different form of lithium with lithium ions was also used.

The process continued until Sony released the first commercially available lithium-ion battery. These rechargeable batteries were instantly popular and powered many electronic devices. These cells were based on the principle of layered chemistry and used lithium cobalt dioxide as a replacement for previously used lithium metal.

Numerous people continued to research the possibility of developing safer and more cost-effective alternatives to lithium cobalt dioxide. In 1996, Akshaya Pahi and John Goodenough developed the lithium ironphosphate and other phosphor-olivines. They worked together to improve the technology for lithium batteries.

This battery is being developed further in order to improve its stability, safety, cost, and performance. The safety features and long-lasting durability and reliability of lithium ion batteries have made them very popular. These batteries are used to power portable devices such as laptops and power tools.

These rechargeable lithium batteries are being used by electric cars and other serious industries because they offer a reliable and stable power source. The 2004 improvement came when Yet-Ming Chiang, an MIT researcher, used iron phosphate to make the lithium battery. This has extremely small particles with a diameter of only 100nm. The battery's performance was further improved and the capacity was also increased.
