The lehenga or ghagra choli is the favorite female apparel worn during festivals, weddings or special events in India. It was one of the earliest forms of a clumsily stitched skirt which was worn using drawstring or commonly saying word ‘nada’. Lehenga or Ghagras are forms of skirts which are long, embroidered and having pleats on it. Lehenga is worn as the bottom portion of a Ghagra choli. Lehenga choli co-exist with each other and makes a complete dress.Ghagra is considered as a piece of clothing that covers the waist and leaves the lower back and midriff exposed. Today lehengas come in a broad variation in embroidery work such as Gota as well as Phulkari, Shisha, Chikankari, Nakshi along with Kundan and many other things used as decorative items.
