PGWPs (post-graduation work permits) are open work permits granted to overseas students who have completed a programme of study in Canada. PGWPs allow the holder to work for any company in Canada for as many hours as they choose.

PGWPs are valid for eight to three years and are an excellent way to gain valuable Canadian job experience. When an applicant has job experience in Canada, he or she has a better chance of obtaining permanent residency in Canada.

What is a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) and how does it work?

International understudies who have graduated from a Canadian Designated Learning Institution are eligible for Post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWPs) (DLI). PGWPs are open work permits, which give foreign nationals the freedom to work for any company in Canada.

Who can apply for a PGWP?
A foreign national must be at least 18 years old to be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

• Around the age of eighteen.
• Completed an eight-month programme in Canada while studying full-time.

The study programme will most likely be completed in a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in one of the types of programmes described below. In addition, a foreign national should apply for a work permit within 180 days of completing their study programme.
