Cobb was born in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. A member of a large and deeply religious family, Cobb was the sixth of eleven children and was very close to his father, a preacher, who he exercised with and shared a common interest in sports. His father encouraged Ashton to be the best athlete he could possibly be, which fueled the desire to exercise and play spots as much as possible. Ashton was especially interested in football; a passion that fueled his eventual position on his high school football team. It was a point that served as a launching pad for his career in football, as he was later scouted to receive a full athletic scholarship at the University of Kentucky. Cobb had, in fact, received a number of offers from Division 1 schools; however becoming a Wildcat was especially appealing to him. He had a successful career with the team, as he became their starting strong safety while also receiving a quality education. After suffering from an injury and temporarily being unable to play, Cobb went on to play for the Boston Brawlers, an FXFL team where he continued to be a strong presence on the field and prove his readiness for the professional league.
