Christopher Smith of South Central was a physical education teacher for many years before he moved to the administrative aspects of the educational system. Before becoming a teacher, Christopher Smith of South Central earned his Bachelor of Science in Education and his certification in All Grade Physical Education and Health and Safety Endorsement from Ball State University in 1985. During this time, Christopher Smith of South Central completed his student teaching experience at Muncie North High School.

After completing his degree, Christopher Smith of South Central moved on to begin teaching physical education at Carlin Park Elementary School and Hendry Park Elementary School in Angola, Indiana. Christopher Smith of South Central taught grades K through 5th from 1985 to 1986 at these schools. While teaching, Christopher Smith of South Central provided both the structure and guidelines for the process of developing the Physical Education curriculum at these schools to meet the standards of the state of Indiana.

In 1986, Christopher Smith of South Central moved on to teach Physical Education and Health at Angola Middle School. Christopher Smith of South Central remained there until 1999, teaching grades 6th through 8th. In this position, Christopher Smith of South Central implemented a new Physical Education curriculum for an environment of high learning standards. Christopher Smith of South Central also co-implemented a fitness lab, developed plans for special-needs students, and made his lessons accessible for the learning styles of all students.

When asked about his time as a physical education teacher, Christopher Smith of South Central stated, “I really enjoyed both teaching and coaching students. It was great to get them involved in and excited about sports and healthy, physical activity.” Christopher Smith of South Central also coached while he was teaching, covering high school cross country, wrestling, and tennis as well as middle school track, football, wrestling, and basketball.

After developing physical education at these elementary and middle schools, Christopher Smith of South Central went on to become Vice Principal and Principal at Lakeland Middle School and Superintendent of Schools for South Central Community Schools. In all of the positions he has held, Christopher Smith of South Central has developed student learning.
