Dr. William Colom is a specialist in Internal Medicine who has spent the last 37 years meeting patients’ needs in his New London County community. Much of his medical work has been divided between his roles at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital and Southeastern CT Medical Associates. As an undergraduate, Dr. William Colom studied at Washington & Lee University in Virginia. Dr. William Colom completed his Internal Medicine specialty at George Washington University School of Medicine and Hospital.
For over 37 years Dr. William Colom has diligently served his patients. While much of Dr. William Colom’s time was focused on his medical work, he did find time to enjoy his personal hobbies. Among a list of personal pastimes enjoyed by Dr. William Colom, he ranks sports car racing very highly. “I love racing – the speed at which the cars can travel and the amazing skills of each driver competing on the track makes participating and watching it exciting,” says Dr. William Colom.
Dr. William Colom understands the rush of adrenaline racers experience. He spent his own time racing sports cars successfully. For 10 years, Dr. William Colom put his medical skills to use as the Regional Medical Director for the Sports Car Club of America. In order to participate as a race driver, Dr. William Colom had to attend racing school. He honed his skill at the Skip Barber Racing School which is one of the largest racing schools in the world.
As much as he loved to race and be part of the sport in the past, Dr. William Colom is ready to sit back and enjoy his favorite sport from a distance now. “You cannot race forever but I enjoyed each moment I spent as a sports car racer,” says Dr. William Colom. It has been a few years since Dr. William Colom last raced behind the wheel of a sports car. Dr. William Colom admits he loved racing but knew his time for racing was over. “As much as I loved to race, I now enjoy watching races instead with my family,” says Dr. William Colom.
