Farrukh Chaudhry speaks of the importance of mentor relationships

Farrukh Chaudhry looks back on his career in medicine, and often credits most of his success to his mentors he obtained through college and postgraduate work. Farrukh Chaudhry is a 2004 graduate of the Allama Iqbal Medical School in Lahore, Pakistan. Following graduation, Farrukh Chaudhry moved to Kingston, New York where he completed an internship at the Kingston Hospital. From 2009 to 2012, Farrukh Chaudhry completed his residency in neurology at Loyola University Medical Center, Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. Immediately following the completion of his residency, Farrukh Chaudhry went on to pursue a fellowship at Loyola in vascular neurology. Farrukh Chaudhry had his first fellowship commence in 2013, and immediately started his second in neurocritical care at the Cleveland Clinic.

Farrukh Chaudhry spoke of the importance of his relationships with mentors during his education process; “Although working in the classroom and studying taught me substantial knowledge about my field, the most beneficial wisdom I obtained was from my mentors. They always helped me make the best decisions in my career, and provided insight that no textbook could ever offer. I also credit my ability to conduct meaningful research to them. My mentors constantly helped advance my research, and offered solutions to further develop my ideas. For that I am extremely thankful.”

Farrukh Chaudhry hopes that more medical professionals will serve as mentors to aspiring students. “I constantly seek students to build mentorship relationships with. If I see an individual that has superior potential, I want to use my experience and knowledge to help them grow. Although many people believe mentoring is time consuming and only beneficial to the student, that is not the case. Mentoring has helped me become a better teacher, listener, and communicator.”

Farrukh Chaudhry is currently completing his second fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. The fellowship will commence in the year 2015. Farrukh Chaudhry is still conducting and publishing research, along with working as a mentor and teacher. “I will always be invested in academic medicine,” Farrukh Chaudhry stated. “I am passionate about my field, and I want to use my background to help others prosper.”
