“I never want to see someone go to bed hungry,” says Ervin Zubic, “With agriculture, we can be feeding so many hungry people each and every day.”
Agriculture can help reduce poverty in many different ways. Investing in farming can help promote food security, bring more jobs to an area, and reduce the amount of money families spend on food. Farming helps to rebuild communities and brings a sense of accomplishment and worth to those who may have lost it.

“The first step in fighting hunger is fighting poverty,” says Ervin Zubic, “If you can create jobs and give a community a boost to its economy, you should. Farms will do that and they have done that.”

But if it is not feasible to start a farm in an area, then there are many other ways in which farmers help out their communities. Ervin Zubic donates a portion of his harvest to local food banks. He wants to make sure that the food banks have enough nutritious and healthy foods.

“It is not only enough to make sure that people are getting food, but they have to get the right foods,” says Ervin Zubic, “If all they have to eat is cookies and other junk food, then they aren’t getting the necessary nutrients their bodies need to survive.”

Ervin Zubic knows that it is a long and hard road to ending hunger in America. But Ervin Zubic feels that if everyone does his or her part, then we are that much closer to achieving the goal.
