When designing his office’s headquarters, Paul Bunton of BCA Architects wanted to create an energy efficient and sustainable design. On September 20, 2011 Paul Bunton’s BCA Architects office in San Jose was named the 2011 Green Project of the Year. Paul Bunton was given this award by the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal. Paul Bunton and his team used 84 percent of the existing building’s shell when creating their new headquarters. This award was based on their repurposing so much of the former Eagle Body Manufacturing building. Paul Bunton’s design included using most of the old timber trusses and skylights that were part of the original building. Paul Bunton’s design for BCA Architects’ new headquarters added 4,000 square feet of structural and building system upgrades and included a full facade improvement.

Paul Bunton has this to say about the outcome of his new headquarters: “I am so proud of my team. We worked very hard on this design and are honored to have won the 2011 Green Project of the Year award for our new headquarters. We wanted a building that would showcase our design style. Sustainability, renewable design and repurposing existing materials is what BCA Architects is all about.” This award is just one of the many that Paul Bunton and his team have received in the last 25 years. Paul Bunton also holds awards for design and construction excellence.

The Green Project of the Year Award is annually given to an architecture or design firm who shows exceptional skill at reusing existing structures. Paul Bunton and his team at BCA Architects continue to show their commitment to the environment and to reusing and repurposing old buildings and materials. The commitment to creating green structures is evident in the schools and community living projects that Paul Bunton and his team at BCA Architects have designed all over California.

In addition to the 2011 Green Project of the Year Award, the BCA Architects headquarters building was also awarded the 2011 Design of the Year Award for its innovative design and creativity in using an existing structure. Paul Bunton and his team have made a commitment to creating innovative and environmentally friendly designs.
