Rasheem Crockett and Georgia Peach Celebrate 15th Anniversary

Rasheem Crockett bought his popular tour vessel fifteen years ago.

With over fifteen years of experience in the water, Rasheem Crockett is a seasoned sea captain with knowledge of the Caribbean that is equally as vast as its waters. It all started back in 1999, when he was traveling around South America and had found himself broke and stuck in a small fishing village off the coast of Suriname. An English trader overheard Rasheem trying to apply for a job while speaking broken Spanish to a café manager, and offered a helping hand. What resulted was a three-month trip to all the islands of the Caribbean, where Rasheem Crockett familiarized himself with island cultures and sailing techniques and etiquette while his captain tried to secure onshore deals with distributors.

The journey went smoothly, and at the end of it Rasheem Crockett was dropped off in Key West, Florida. Rasheem received no compensation for his work while on board, however the free trip home and the experience of a lifetime was enough payment in his eyes. And throughout the trip, Rasheem had put his sketching skills to use, and had created a portfolio that was thickened with sketches of Caribbean fish, seascapes, beaches and sunsets. He started to sell his pieces in local markets, and once his popularity picked up his sketches rapidly disappeared as his pockets got deeper.

Within a month, Rasheem Crockett had sold all of his sketches, and was now getting bored with life on the land. He decided to take all of his saved earnings and buy a boat, and by luck he found a boat that was much bigger than what was usually offered in his price range, but just required some extra work. Having worked as a ship hand, Rasheem Crockett had no problem fixing up what is known today at the Georgia Peach, one of the Caribbean’s most revered tour vessels. Fifteen years later, the Georgia Peach is still running strong and looking as sharp as ever. When asked if he will ever sell the Georgia Peach, Rasheem Crockett often jokes that the Georgia Peach will get rid of him, before he gets rid of it.
