Tambi Renee advocates for greater knowledge of pet food recalls.

Tambi Renee, an animal rights activist, is speaking out against unsafe pet food. During 2013 thus far, the FDA has publicized 29 recalls on various types of animal food in the U.S. Tambi Renee believes that even one recall on pet food is one too many. According to Tambi Renee, pet food recalls are a huge issue for two reasons: the safety of our pets, and the ability of pet owners to gain this knowledge.

When it comes to unsafe pet food, our pets cannot tell us when something doesn’t feel right. As Tambi Renee asserts, this means that it is possible for our pets to face the harmful consequences of unsafe pet food before we can tell that there is a problem. In addition, Tambi Renee believes that this information is not publicized well enough, meaning that pet owners may not know about important recalls when they happen. Because of this, Tambi Renee is speaking out about pet food recalls and against the safety hazards in pet food.

While the FDA publicizes animal food recalls on their website, Tambi Renee believes that this is not enough. Tambi Renee commented, “Pet owners may not realize that they can check the FDA website for pet food recalls, which means they often do not find out about these recalls until it is too late. This can have devastating consequences for both pets and pet owners.” Because she believes so strongly in this cause, Tambi Renee is advocating for a better system that will actually notify pet owners about pet food recalls that may affect their animals.

The FDA’s page on animal food recalls shows that food for all types of animals has faced health risks, including food for birds, cats, dogs, lambs, deer, fish, and poultry. Recalls of pet food can be put in place either for a proven health concern, such as salmonella, or a potential health risk. Tambi Renee believes that in addition to a better system of notification, the FDA should place more stringent regulations on animal food to ensure that health risks are prevented before they occur. No pet should be subjected to dangerous food, and Tambi Renee believes that pet food should be as safe as food for human beings.
