On Thursday the Board of Control for Cricket in India paid a tribute to Charulata Patel who passed away on January 13 at the age of 87. During last year her presence at World Cup in London warmed every Indian’s heart.

Who is Charulata Patel?
The news of Charulata Patel’s passing away was confirmed by her official Instagram account. She was seen supporting Indian team led by Virat Kohli in 2019 World Cup with huge enthusiasm and passion. She became an instant hero for every cricket lover after attending India’s match against Bangladesh. She was spotted celebrating every run scored by Indians. The cameraman found her cheering for the Men in Blue and kept following her action throughout the match. Her images and videos became viral within minutes.

Patel was sporting a tricolour scarf, and was with a vuvuzela and a flag in hand. Her love for cricket and Indian team attracted the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The duo went on to meet her after winning the game. They spent few minutes, spoke to her and the Indian captain promised to pay for her match tickets. Kohli also took to his social media account after the match to thank Charulata Patel for her constant support.
The elderly lady was also made the face of Pepsi’s swag campaign which the company was running for the ICC World Cup 2019.

The news of her demise did not just break every Indian’s heart, it touched the officials and cricketers as well. The Indian cricket board did not miss the chance of showing their respect to the lady. They paid a tribute to the graceful fan by writing on Twitter from the official account. The Tweet says, “#TeamIndia’s Superfan Charulata Patel ji will always remain in our hearts and her passion for the game will keep motivating us. May her soul rest in peace”
