For more than ten years, Rene Schillinger, an educational consultant, has been working with schools in and around New York improve literacy instruction. In 2009, he founded Schillinger Educational Consultants in an effort to better assist the area schools and school districts. After earning his Master’s degree from New York University, he began working as a consultant, training teachers in “best practices” as they relate to the teaching of reading, writing, fluency, comprehension, phonics, vocabulary acquisition, and research writing. He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in English Education from the Teachers College at Columbia University, working to increase his knowledge in English education to better help his clients.
Rene Schillinger attended Lehigh University, receiving his Bachelors of Arts degree in Political Science in 1988. Shortly after graduating, he enrolled at New York University to pursue his Masters in English Education. His studies provided him with the knowledge to become an educational consultant. Early on in his career, he built a relationship with the Nativity Network of Schools, a confederation of faith-based schools that provide independent school educations to students in poverty. He has worked directly with Nativity Schools in Delaware, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Oregon.
Rene Schillinger was born and raised in New York City. His parents are Eastern European immigrants that often returned to their home country while Schillinger was young. His extensive travels through Europe growing up helped to establish his passion for education. When he is not dedicating himself to helping others improve their literacy instruction he can be found singing in his church choir or composing music.
