Rene Schillinger is a highly educated individual. He was born in New York, and though he lived in the city, he travelled extensively throughout Europe with his parents. After working as a paralegal for a few years, he decided to begin a career in education and returned to school. In 1993, he graduated from New York University with a Master of Arts in English Education. He is also a doctoral candidate in the same degree field at Teachers College, Columbia University.

In 2009, he became the owner and president of Schillinger Educational Consultants. He started this company so that he could provide struggling schools with consultation services. He is highly knowledgeable about teaching practices that are related to reading comprehension and fluency. He has spent years studying education and is aware of the importance of literacy.
