It therefore falls in the month of April or about 14th April every year. The same day, many Hindus elsewhere observe New Year as well but the festival is called “Vishakhi”.
This festival is marked by family time, preparing colorful auspicious item and viewing these as the first thing on the Vishu day. Food play an important role in Vishnu celebration, is the time where they prepare delicious and felicitous traditional meal and enjoying them with family.

Vishu kanji is primarily rice and coconut porridge. Usually served with jackfruit, Vishu kaji is a major delicacy in Palakkad in India.
Vishu katta is quite similar with vishu kanji semi thick and thin coconut milk of this dish which can be obtained by processing coconut with water in a food processer.
Vishu thoran is a popular cabbage dish made especially during vishu. It contain ginger , green chilli and sauté.
