Roger Clough has a worked in a wide range of roles since beginning his career in the Massena Central School District. Roger Clough brought his experience in roles from kindergarten to sixth grade education with him to his current role as Superintendent of the Massena Central School District. In his time there, Roger Clough has made a number of strides to help improve student opportunities and achievement. Though Roger Clough admits that the job has not always been easy, he has found it a profoundly rewarding one.

Though the title of superintendent sounds like one job, in accepting it meant that Roger Clough became responsible for a range of school district-related business. Roger Clough became the Massena School District’s chief administrator, fiscal manager, and director. Roger Clough became responsible for a range of programs and responsibilities including the school’s budget, personnel, program development, transportation, and maintenance among other things. Roger Clough took the reins as superintendent as the district was facing some hard financial times. “There were definitely some tough decisions that needed to be made for the good of the district and its students. While I thought carefully about matters, I did not hesitate to make the decisions that I felt would provide our students with the best results. In every decision that I’ve made as superintendent, I’ve considered our students and the effect that each decision will have on them,” said Roger Clough.

Roger Clough prides himself on the academic programs that he was able to bring to the Massena Central School District. “We overcame difficult economic times and an often divided board to successfully introduce programs that promoted educational enhancement, staff and curriculum development, and learning during out-of-school time,” said Roger Clough. Roger Clough worked on improving the district’s academic programs including expanding their International Baccalaureate program, making college credit classes available to all high school students, broadening their Pre-Kindergarten offerings, and starting Junior Kindergarten classes.

Roger Clough is proud that Massena Central School District now boasts the most comprehensive academic program in the North Country. Recently U.S. News & World Report just ranked Massena High School in the top five percent of US high schools. The school is ranked #1073 out of 21,776 US high schools, and #137 out of 1165 New York high schools. Roger Clough is proud to have this achievement take place under his leadership.
