Grooming your dog is an important part of keeping them looking their best. The right grooming techniques can make a big difference in their appearance and health, and will also help you to keep track of any problems that may occur.

There are a few different types of dog grooming in Katy that your dog will need: regular brushing, bathing, nails clipping and trimming, ear cleaning, and de-fleaing/de-tick treatment. It’s important to remember that each dog is different and will require different care. Follow the specific guidelines given below for the care of each area of your pet’s body.

Regular brushing is the most important step in keeping your dog's coat clean and healthy. To brush your dog correctly, use a soft brush with long bristles on a low setting. Start at the back of their neck and work your way down to their tail. Be sure to brush around their ears, behind their ears, and under their chin. Be sure to brush all the hair off their tail, as this is where most dogs deposit fecal material. Try not to overbrush; this will remove too much hair and leave your pet feeling dry and uncomfortable.

Bathing should be done at least once a week if possible; more often if your pet has heavy shedding or excessive dirt buildup on their coat. Fill a large tub or container with warm water and add enough soap or shampoo to cover the entire dog's body (including their feet).

Nails clipping and trimming should be done at least once a month. Clip the nails close to the quick but not so close that they bleed. Trim their nails if they grow too long.

Ear cleaning can be done using a ear cleaner designed for pets, or using a wet cloth and soap. Be sure to clean both inside and outside of your pet's ears.

De-fleaing/de-tick treatment is necessary every six months, and should be done after your pet has had their nails clipped and teeth cleaned. Apply a topical spray to the dog's skin, concentrating on their body and most vulnerable areas (such as around their neck, armpits, and hindquarters).
