Does Staging Really Help You Sell Your Home?

Think about what you want to see when you go to look at a home for sale, as a potential buyer. Do you want to see a completely empty house painted white on the inside? Can you imagine living in such a home? But a home that’s warm and inviting, furnished thoughtfully, clean and uncluttered…that’s how you find a home, not just a house. The best real estate agents know that properly staging a home for sale works. But, of course, it isn’t free.

Staging Helps Sell a Home, But How Much Should It Cost?

This is an important question for anyone contemplating a selling a home, and requires a little research to figure it out. Check out review sites like Yelp or Angie’s List; look for reviews that feel natural and honest, written by someone who really did use a home stager to help sell a home. Reviews from your area, about homes for sale that are similar to yours, will help you determine how much it should cost.

It’s Your Home for Sale, so Why Not Do It Yourself?

Rather than pay for someone to actually do the staging, you can also pay for a plan created by a home stager for you to execute. After all, it’s your home for sale! What if you absolutely must live there while those looking to buy a home come by to check it out? You might be able to stage it in a manner that facilitates your living needs yet presents the home nicely to prospective buyers. It may take longer to sell a home this way since a professional would probably do a better job, even though you’d be using a professionally drawn up plan.

Selling a Home and Staging It Yourself

If you do plan on staging it yourself, and you decide not to pay for a professionally drawn up plan, here are some basic tips that should help you sell your home. As already mentioned, get rid of clutter everywhere, including on shelves. Make sure the house is clean and smells nice. Move furniture away from the walls. Find tasteful artwork and accessories, and arrange them creatively and sparingly in good lighting. There are plenty of web sites that talk about how to stage a home to sell. The easiest way to find? Just search “how to stage a home to sell” online.

If You Need to Buy a Home, Too, Check Out How Others Are Staged

Since you plan to sell a home, you may also be in the market to buy a home, yes? When you go to look at other homes for sale, check out how they are staged. Talk to the real estate agent there about it. You can also look up homes for sale on MLSListings.com. Look at the photos; it’s not difficult to see which homes were professionally staged for the photographer and which one weren’t.
