What is Nexium?

Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor, which comes in handy when you will have to reduce the amount of acid in the stomach. Uses of Nexium

Nexium also prevents esophagitis, which is the damage caused to stomach and esophagus due to excessive acid.

How to Take Nexium

Talk Nexium orally with a glass of water. Ensure that you take Nexium an hour before taking a meal. Use the medicine for 4-6 weeks and see if there is a positive change in your acidity and heartburn problem. If there is a positive change, you should continue after consulting with the doctor. On the other hand, if it does not benefit you, then ask your doctor to change the dose or suggest a more effective alternative.

Never crush or chew the Nexium tablet, always swallow it as a whole. If there is no other choice, then you can open the Nexium tablet and put the powder in the a desert such as pudding or custard. Have it with water but this is only for patient who cannot swallow the tablet as a whole. Call your doctor if your condition becomes worse after taking the dose.

If you doctor prescribe you Nexium, make sure that he knows about your medical history and current medical condition. Tell the doctor about any underlying medical condition or other drug you are using along with Nexium. If you have one or more of the following problems you should not use Nexium.

• Bone diseases such as osteoporosis
• Liver disease
• Low magnesium level in the blood

Remember that if you have any bone related problem in the past then Nexium will do more harm than good to your health therefore, it is highly recommended that you avoid using Nexium especially if you have osteoporosis or severe liver disease. In fact, Nexium is one of the major cause of fracture in Nexium users with past history of bone related problem.
