Mark Spain Real Estate and 104.7 The Fish Present Metro Atlanta Family with Fish Act of Love

Atlanta-based Mark Spain Real Estate partnered with local radio station 104.7 The Fish to sponsor its Acts of Love Partnership and helped a local family whose young son recently received a leukemia diagnosis, with mortgage payments.

Last week, Chairman and CEO Mark Spain and Fish personality Parks Stamper were on hand to personally provide a very special Fish Act of Love to a Dacula, Ga. family in need. Mark and Sarah Johnson were unexpectedly hit with a serious health challenge with their 17-month-old son, Ryker. Just five days after closing on and moving into a new home in August, they learned Ryker had leukemia.

The couple has each reduced their work down to part-time so that at least one parent is always at the hospital with Ryker. He is currently undergoing his second round of chemotherapy. Between concern for their son’s health, hospital bills, reduced income and a brand new $1,700 mortgage payment, the Johnsons have, understandably, been under a lot of stress. Sarah’s brother, Phillip, nominated the family for a Fish Act of Love.

When the radio station and Mark Spain Real Estate learned of the Johnsons’ story, they immediately took action. Because their toddler son, who will come home soon from the hospital, will have no immune system after chemotherapy treatments, Fish Atlanta, on behalf of the Fish listeners and Mark Spain Real Estate, arranged to have three Calgon iWave R air filtration systems installed throughout the house.

While the Johnsons were fortunate to have a local non-profit pay their October mortgage payment, this large monthly bill was still looming over the family’s head for the coming months. The family has also received some financial relief from a GoFundMe page but have been very concerned about how to get through the holidays and beyond. To provide additional hope and alleviate some of the stress, Mark Spain Real Estate stepped in and will pay their November, December and January mortgage payments. This will get the family through the holiday season and allow them to remain focused on caring for their son.

“Children have a special place in my heart and, as a father myself, I cannot imagine how this family is dealing with this extraordinary challenge,” explained Mark Spain. “We care about the communities and families we serve, and our company wanted to step in and help ease the burden over the next few months.”

Similar to the Fish Christmas Wish, the Acts of Love initiative is bringing joy and happiness to families in greater Atlanta who are in need of extra support due largely to the COVID-19 pandemic. Acts of Love was started to support metro Atlantans’ needs on a year-round basis. The Fish Atlanta refers to Acts of Love as neighbors helping neighbors.

Ever conscious of the importance of giving back to the communities in which they serve, Mark Spain Real Estate has been a Fish Christmas Wish supporter the last four years and counting. After expanding to Charlotte, Raleigh and Nashville in the last couple years, Mark Spain Real Estate consistently gives back to these communities as well. It is part of the company’s philosophy to “lead with a servant’s heart.”

This latest round of philanthropy through the Acts of Love sponsorship is the second Fish Act of Love that Mark Spain Real Estate has participated in this month. Mark Spain Real Estate previously paid a year of rent for a Monroe family whose daughter is also battling cancer.
