Blanchard, LA Mayor Jim Galambos issues proclamation recognizing February 1st as Sandy B. Hooks Day in honor of first Black postman in Blanchard, LA-Sandy B. Hooks.

 
The town of Blanchard, Louisiana is has a new holiday on February 1 to start Black History Month 2023. Sandy B. Hooks Day celebrates the birthday, life, legacy, and historic nature of the first Black postman in Blanchard, Louisiana-Sandy B. Hooks on February 1st annually. Blanchard, LA Mayor Jim Galambos will issue a Sandy B. Hooks Day proclamation to Hooks' great niece Renowned Global Activist Greshun De Bouse-also a proponent of raising awareness of his historical contributions. Hooks was born in Blanchard, LA, and his work ethic and teachings to his son-Henry L. Hooks while on his daily mail route, propelled Henry to ultimately the first Black male NASA employee in moon missions, and one of the first Black NASA employees in general.
