Crime novels are really popular these days. No matter what bookstore you enter, you’ll find a crime section. Find your favourite crime novel on Hubbfi, where readers can access readers premium thrilling books. With so many novels written in the crime genre, it can feel like an easy one to write in, but as with anything else, it only looks easy when it’s done well. And as Ludwig Wittgenstein said, “More Wisdom is contained in the best crime fiction than in philosophy.”

Below are some tips that will help you write a good crime fiction:

- First, and most important, is to ascertain what your story is about. What kind of feelings do you want to evoke in your readers. Do you want to make them angry? Sad? Pick such an emotion and make it the central theme of your story.

- The central focus of this genre is crime, so make sure that you start your story with a crime—preferable murder. This will hook readers to the story from the start.

- The best way to write a crime is by writing the story backwards. First comes the crime, then come the details leading to the crime and how the crime is solved.

- Make sure the setting is described in sufficient detail that the reader has a clear mental image of the location.

- And don’t forget to focus on every minor detail. Those are the ones that can make or break a story. And be realistic, but simple, while writing these details. The more mundane the setting, the more shocking your crime will be.

- Have good characters. Your characters make your story, be it the crazy villain or the smart hero, make sure that all your characters are well-developed—the villain, the hero and everyone else in between.

- This brings us to the next point. Don’t write likeable characters. This especially applies to the villain. The more people hate the villain, the more successful your book will be. After all, you’re writing a crime, not a fairy tale, so nobody expects likeable characters.

- Make your story exciting. Don’t write what you know, but what excites you, which includes twists and turns, reversals, setbacks and new plans. A crime fiction is ultimately a thriller, and that is what attracts the readers.

- A totally unpredictable ending is a must. As important as a killer opening. Usually, by the end, most readers have guessed the storyline and the outcome. So, make your ending such that it leaves them speechless. This is guaranteed to have readers rushing off to buy another one of your novels.

- Lastly, you should have fun writing the story. This will ensure that the readers will have fun reading it.
