Acupuncture Now Available in Dallas, Irving and Flower Mound

This month Lumin Health™ will add a new service line, acupuncture, which will be available immediately at SpineCARE™ locations in Dallas and Irving, and at Lumin ConvenientCARE in Flower Mound. Acupuncture often is used in conjunction with other therapies and as an alternative to pain medication, because it quickly reduces inflammation and pain, and relaxes muscles and increases circulation, which can shorten recovery time. In addition, it stimulates the body’s natural healing process, promotes emotional and physical well-being and boosts endocrine and immune function.

“Our goal is to help you enjoy a life that’s as pain-free as possible by utilizing a treatment plan that’s individualized for each patient’s unique needs. We’re excited to now offer acupuncture in Irving, Dallas and Flower Mound. Acupuncture is an effective, safe, drug-free treatment that can play an important role in eliminating both acute and chronic pain,” says Samantha Traylor, DC, FIAMA, a chiropractor and acupuncturist with Lumin Health.

Dr. Traylor will lead the acupuncture program at Lumin Health. She is licensed in Texas and certified with the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners and the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture. Dr. Traylor is a graduate of Parker College of Chiropractic, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in health and wellness and her Doctorate of Chiropractic. She also attended Murray State University in Western Kentucky, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in animal and equine science.

The classic theory of acupuncture is that it works by removing the blockage in the energy channels, or meridians, in the body. These meridians flow like rivers of energy along regular pathways, nourishing the body's tissues and organs.

“A blockage of these ‘rivers’ is like a dam, holding back the natural flow of energy and causing an imbalance that manifests as pain and sickness. By inserting very small needles and stimulating acupuncture points, we can clear the dams to restore the natural balance and energy flow,” explains Dr. Traylor.

“From a scientific standpoint, acupuncture stimulates the nervous system by releasing biochemicals in the brain, spinal cord and muscles. This relieves pain and can influence the body’s internal regulation and involuntary bodily functions, such as immune reactions, digestion, temperature and blood flow,” continues Dr. Traylor.

Acupuncturists at Lumin Health use very fine needles that are nothing like the hypodermic needles patients are used to feeling when they receive a flu shot or other vaccinations.

“Patients rarely feel anything more than a minor prick, comparable to a mosquito bite. Occasionally a dull ache, a tingling or a warm sensation may be experienced where the needle is inserted. This is a desired affect and shouldn’t be unpleasant. Many times during an acupuncture treatment, a patient is so relaxed that they fall asleep,” says Dr. Traylor.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), acupuncture has been proven effective in the treatment of a wide variety of medical conditions. Some of the conditions Lumin Health’s acupuncture program is designed to help treat include: arthritis, osteoarthritis, back/neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, degenerative discs, fibromyalgia, joint pain, migraines/headaches, myofascial pain, sciatica, postoperative pain, TMJ, tennis elbow, and sports/work/auto injuries.
