A Day that Tries to Make the World a Better Place

Humanity Through Design Day is a new holiday that will be celebrated this year on March 9th. It was created in February of 2023 by Designs, Sharon Lee Hudson, a computer graphic design company. The holiday encourages people to create art for the purpose of making the world a better place.

Celebrating the Holiday

The point of this particular holiday is to help people, animals, and/or the environment. An individual or a group of people create a work that comments on an issue which occurs locally, throughout the country, or somewhere in the world. At least one goal is in mind when this work is created. A few possible goals are stated here: 1) to increase awareness of the issue, 2) to stand up for those in need who have been affected by the issue, 3) to get others who know about the issue to think about it more deeply, and/or 4) to reduce or end the issue. Designs should be relatively light-hearted, even if the situation is very intense. This holiday is meant to uplift and inspire, so artwork should be on the positive side.

Works can be created in a number of ways, including painting, drawing, sculpturing, embroidering, or sewing. Additionally, written works of art may be created as well: a song, a poem, a play, etc.

Sharing Creations

These works can be shared with others in various ways, on or near March 9th: 1) People can post their creations on social media. 2) Colleges and other schools can assign visual or written art projects and display them. 3) Museums, libraries, and other learning establishments can hold viewings for the works of art. 3) Contests can be held online or offline. 4) Places that host poetry readings can encourage people to read works that they wrote to celebrate the holiday.

Little Time this Year, Lots of Time for Next Year

Due to the fact that this special day is set for March 9th, there is little time to prepare for the holiday this year. However, there may be time for individuals to create works and post them on social media platforms. The holiday was created to take place in early March for various reasons, including the fact that colleges are in full swing during that time, and March is warmer compared to some of the other academic months.
