Who says sobriety has to be boring? ⚾
Recovery isn’t the end of joy—it’s the beginning of real living. At Learn to Live Recovery, we believe that recovery from substance use isn’t just about staying sober—it’s about rediscovering joy, building connection, and creating a fulfilling life you don’t need to escape from.
That’s why it was such a privilege to take some of our residents to a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game recently. For many, this was more than just a fun day at the ballpark. It was a reminder that life in recovery can still include the excitement, the laughter, and yes—even the crowds and classic stadium experiences.
One of the hardest things for someone in early recovery to believe is that they can return to places or events that once triggered destructive behaviors. But our approach helps residents slowly reintroduce those environments in a safe, supported way—with community by their side and new coping tools in their back pocket.
Baseball, like recovery, is about second chances. You get another at-bat, another pitch, another play. What better metaphor than America’s pastime to show our guys what’s possible when they commit to a new way of living?
For many of our residents, this was the first time enjoying a big social outing without the cloud of substance use hanging over them. No guilt. No hangover. No regret. Just fun, friendship, and the pride of showing up as their authentic selves.
At Learn to Live, we don’t believe recovery equals restriction.
We believe it’s the gateway to a full, vibrant life—one baseball game, beach day, or concert at a time.
