Mr. V. K. Joshi answers questions about the feasibility of using social media sites while making stock market-related decisions.

16th June, 2016, New Delhi: In a press conference held in the nation’s capital, where there was a burning question being asked on a hot evening, Mr. Joshi of Vikson Securities (P) Ltd. spoke about the usage of social media websites and other recent methods of communication to assist with making better trades in the stock markets. Mr. Joshi started off the event by talking about the launch of their recently revamped company website that covers both Vikson Securities and Vikson Commodities (P) Ltd. He mentioned that his organization and the hardworking team are of the staunch belief that the methods that are used to assist their customers must keep pace with the way the world was changing. Apart from the changes in trading laws and policies, even the way the company interacts with its customers, prospective clients, and the general public needs to borne in mind by every organization carrying out business. This is because the profits of a company rely on their customers, and communicating with them was thus of vital importance.

When one of the reporters at the conference talked about social media sites, Mr. Joshi was quick to take up this hot topic too and elaborate on how he thinks it is important. He mentioned even the best discount broker in India was now using online channels such as blogging, guest posting, using SEO techniques to remain the top result in browser searches, and of course, online advertising in the form of click ads and setting up their own websites. All of these and more online methods are a part of the larger scheme of things, known as the “Internet of Things.” As one portion of the internet was reliant on the other and vice versa, sometimes independently or as a part of a larger chain, such online techniques will, of course, have an impact on the social media websites that most people use for recreational or just communication purposes, but which have gradually started being the source of news and vital information to people all around the world.

Citing a couple of examples, Mr. Joshi talked about various political unrests that took place in various parts of the world, the recent ones being in Greece and Middle Eastern countries. There were various messages, videos, and photographs that were mainly circulated in the social media websites first and later picked up by media companies because of the highest levels of secrecy that government was trying to maintain in the country. The other example he gave was that of the Tata Group planning to close down or sell its steel offices in the UK as they have been in the red for far too long now. This caused a ripple reaction not just in the sector of finances, stock markets, and employment, but also in the political conditions of the country.
