The Writers Circle has plenty of ways to keep kids creative and engaged at its summer creative writing programs: WordSMASH! creative writing mini-camps for kids and the Summer Creative Writing Intensives for Teens Who LOVE to Write. Both camps will run virtually this year due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding COVID-19. The Writers Circle will apply the full force and ingenuity of its creative writing instructors and staff to make this summer as fun and inspiring as ever.

“There are countless interactive resources, both online and off, that we will plumb for writing inspiration, instruction, and ideas,” says TWC Founder/Director Judith Lindbergh. “For WordSMASH!, our camps are for rising 1st-7th graders, we’ll connect students through real-time activities, collaborative projects, and creative writing games. We’ll also practice ‘reading like a writer’ by sharing scenes from favorite kids’ books to understand how writers make magic with words.”

TWC Co-Director Michelle Cameron adds, “In past years, kids were limited by how far their parents were willing to drive each week. Now they can join us for multiple weeks. And each will be different, fun, and engaging.”

For TWC’s teen Summer Creative Writing Intensives, the new virtual format will add a truly multi-media experience to the creative activities and workshops on the 2020 roster. As always, students will develop their own creative writing projects with classes in fiction, poetry, spoken word, playwriting, memoir and more. This summer’s Wednesday literary adventures will take on a global scope as students experience the very best virtual tours from museums, national parks, and extraordinary wonders of the world to inspire fascinating writing.

“This summer, we’re going to visit the Grand Canyon,” says Program Coordinator and Summer Intensive veteran, Rebecca Kilroy. “And we discovered a really cool interactive museum in Tokyo. These are places we never could have visited in the ‘real world.’”

The Writers Circle also has creative writing workshops for adults, including brand new Saturday Summer Specials in memoir writing, journaling, and much more.

All of The Writers Circle’s instructors are published authors hand-picked for their ability to encourage and support students at every age and stage of the writing process.

“Summer is a very special time at The Writers Circle, filled with creativity, friendship, laughter, and fabulous new stories. We want this summer to be just as fun and productive as in years past. Especially in this crazy moment in history, we need community more than ever,” says Founder/Director Lindbergh. “We’re excited about all the creative possibilities this unusual challenge presents. We can’t wait to see our students this summer.”
