The full form of "forex" is "foreign exchange." It refers to the global marketplace for buying and selling currencies.

An example of a foreign exchange market (forex market) transaction might involve an individual or a business exchanging one currency for another. Here's a simplified scenario:

Let's say you're a U.S. resident planning to travel to Europe, and you need to exchange your U.S. dollars (USD) for euros (EUR) to cover your expenses while abroad. You go to a local bank or a currency exchange bureau and exchange $1,000 USD for €900 EUR. In this transaction, you've participated in the forex market by exchanging one currency (USD) for another (EUR).

Similarly, businesses engaged in international trade are active participants in the forex market. For instance, a U.S.-based company that imports electronics from Japan will need to exchange USD for Japanese yen (JPY) to pay their suppliers in Japan. This involves a forex transaction where the company buys JPY in exchange for USD to facilitate the import of goods.

In both examples, the exchange rate at which the currencies are traded is determined by the supply and demand in the forex market. Exchange rates fluctuate constantly based on various economic, political, and market factors, and participants in the forex market aim to take advantage of these fluctuations to either profit from currency movements or manage their exposure to currency risk.
