Philadelphia house-call mobile cat groomer entrepreneur Randye Spina capitalizes on the Year of the Cat

(Philadelphia, Pa. June 24, 2026) — Did you know pet industry analysts have declared 2026 as the Year of the Cat? The American Pet Product Association (APPA) found in a recent study that dog ownership rates are stagnant, while cat ownership is on the rise, especially among Gen Z young men.

Philadelphia cat advocate and entrepreneur Randye Spina knows that and is capitalizing on the new trend. She is launching a new solution for feline families: stress-free, at-home grooming designed exclusively for cats called Caticures To Go. It’s a mobile house-call grooming service that serves many of Philadelphia’s neighborhoods.

The City of Brotherly Love is home to one of the highest concentrations of cat-owning households among major U.S. cities, creating a growing need for specialized feline services. Many cat parents struggle to find providers who focus exclusively on cats.

"Most pet services are still built around dogs, but cats have very different needs," said Spina. "Cats experience stress differently, travel differently, and often respond poorly to unfamiliar environments. I've spent years studying feline behavior as a dedicated cat parent, and I wanted to create a service that puts the cat's comfort first."

According to the APPA’s National Pet Owners Survey, approximately 49 million U.S. households own cats, representing more than 73 million pet cats nationwide. Spina’s new business is part of the significant growth in premium feline products and services.

As a lifelong cat owner, former professor, consultant, and author, Spina has become an outspoken advocate for feline wellness and stress reduction. Through her new business, she educates cat parents about preventive grooming, nail care, handling techniques, and ways to reduce anxiety in the home.

"The majority of cats don't respond well to the stress of a car ride, a waiting room, barking dogs, or an unfamiliar grooming environment just to get a basic nail trim," said Spina. "Many behavioral issues we see during grooming are actually fear responses. When cats remain in their own environment, they're often calmer, safer, and more comfortable."

Operating entirely through house calls, Caticures To Go provides nail trims and basic grooming services throughout Center City Philadelphia, including Rittenhouse Square, Fitler Square, Gayborhood, Midtown Village, Logan Square, and Fairmount. The company also offers discounts for students, veterans, and seniors.

Spina is available for interviews, with highly focused knowledge on a variety of feline topics. You can also check out her website for more information and appointments, as well as a link to her new online pet supply store filled with all things cat-related.
