Warwick, RI - Project Sweet Peas, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting families with infants in Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs), is proud to announce a new partnership with The Foxwynd Foundation. This collaboration aims to significantly expand Project Sweet Peas' Food & Fuel Program, which provides financial assistance to families facing the challenges of having a baby in the NICU.

The Foxwynd Foundation, through its Donor Advised Fund (DAF), has generously committed a $50,000 grant to Project Sweet Peas. This funding will enable the organization to triple the number of families we support from July 2024 to April 2025, helping to offset meal and travel costs for families in need.

The Food & Fuel Program addresses the financial hardships many families face during a NICU stay, including medical expenses, loss of income, and additional unforeseen costs. By providing gas, food, and transportation gift cards, along with financial awards, Project Sweet Peas aims to alleviate some of the burdens these families encounter.

"We are truly so grateful for the generous commitment of The Foxwynd Foundation," said Corin Nava, Executive Director of Project Sweet Peas. "Their support will allow us to triple our monthly assistance, making a significant difference in the lives of NICU families during an incredibly stressful time."

The cost of specialized medical care can quickly mount. Many parents are forced to take unpaid leave or quit their jobs to be with their baby, resulting in lost income. Additional expenses such as travel, parking, meals away from home, and childcare for siblings further strain already tight budgets. These financial pressures, combined with the emotional stress of having a critically ill newborn, can push families to the brink of financial crisis. For many, the dream of bringing their baby home is overshadowed by the looming specter of medical debt and financial instability.

Project Sweet Peas will integrate the funding into its "5K Your Way" peer-to-peer fundraising campaign. The Foxwynd Foundation will provide matching funds based on specific campaign milestones, encouraging community participation and support.

Since its inception in 2009, Project Sweet Peas has supported over 175,000 families, providing services to empower and support families of fragile infants and inspire hope through remembrance for those affected by pregnancy and infant loss.
