Team India have seen a lot of changes in recent times which also included the much-talked number 4 position. Even that as the reason India did not get a regular no. 4 for the World Cup in England last year. The result was seen that India were out of the semi-final after losing to New Zealand.
Ever since MS Dhoni has given the baton to Virat Kohli, the Indian team has seen several changes in playing XIs on most occasions, apart from a few. However, former India player Mohammad Kaif didn’t like it too much.
According to him, Virat Kohli has been experimenting with the playing XIs a lot. He said, "Kohli is doing a lot of experiments with team selection. He should not have done that. Kohli tried many combinations and even selected players who don't have so much exposure during last world cup.”
He further added, "He should focus and back his team selection. If any player loses his form for some matches, still he should support them. Kohli should be looking to make players. Then only he can create a good team."
Meanwhile, the former player has also pointed out the same problem with wicket-keepers in the team. Notably, former India captain MS Dhoni who was India’s regular wicketkeeper hasn’t played a single game ever since India lost to New Zealand in the 2019 World Cup. In his absence, Rishabh Pant has been chosen but his rough patch saw him out of the team where KL Rahul has replaced him.
"Even for the Wicket keeping role, they are shuffling many players. India needs a permanent specialist wicket-keeper. KL Rahul can be a backup wicket-keeper but I don't think he should be the main one,” he shared.
Moreover, Kaif said that Kohli should back Rishabh Pant if he is to be considered for the future. And he thinks I Kohli manages to do so and overcome this hurdle then he will be the most successful captain when he retires from the game.
