Tampa, Fla. - American Advertising 4th District, comprised of 19 local federations of advertising professionals across Florida and the Caribbean, launched its annual Public Service campaign with a state-wide beach cleanup. Over 100 Plastic Brigade volunteers from around the state stormed Florida beaches and waterways to collect over 1,000 pounds of waste.

From plastic bottles to discarded cigarette butts, experts estimate that roughly seven billion tons of debris end up in waterways around the world annually. This doesn’t just make the beaches unpleasant, but it also has significant impact on the environment and the health of our oceans.

“This initiative made sense for our organization to tackle because it’s something that impacts us all,” stated Mike Weber, District Governor. “The coastal cleanups provide immediate results. But the long-term goal of our campaign is to reduce the use of single use plastics and eliminate the pollution at the source.”

With the help of underwriting provided by JL Marine Systems, Inc., makers of the original Power-Pole Shallow Water Anchor, this campaign will continue through next year. The awareness campaign will focus on the powerful impact of eliminating just one single-use plastic item from our daily routine.

“We as angler’s need to do our best to keep our waters and estuaries free from plastic,”
Power-Pole national sales manager and C.A.S.T.net committee member Dan Benson
said. “The goals of the AAF’s Plastic Brigade are not only to clean up the environment but
to educate everyone about how plastic affects our fisheries.”

The next coastal cleanup is schedule for April 4, 2020. To learn more about the Plastic Brigade initiative and sign up for a cleanup in your area, visit PlasticBrigade.com.
