According to the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006, and the Rules and Regulations of 2011, food product processors and manufacturers were required to have their products tested and certified by an NABL-accredited laboratory every six months and then submit the certificate to the FSSAI portal.

S. Rethnavelu, the president and founder of Agro-food Trade Centre, announced that their food products analytical laboratory and research center in Sikkanthar Chavadi, Madurai had received accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL)

Stressing the significance of food safety testing in India, K. Balasubramanian, Joint Director of Food Safety and Standards Authorities of India (FSSAI) in New Delhi, mentioned that even food products that have been tested may still fail when exported abroad, resulting in significant financial losses for exporters. As a result, having a certified and authenticated certification is crucial.

In its usual way, FSSAI randomly assesses food products obtained from the market. He added that if the test determines the food product to be unhygienic or adulterated, the test results will be sent to the State government for them to take action against the manufacturer.

He added that FSSAI requires laboratories testing food products to have ISO 17025 certifications to ensure the quality of their services.

He stated that an ISO 17025 certification obtained by an in-house laboratory in a factory or manufacturing unit could be recognized nationwide.

All manufacturers must have NABL certification for export as it is a compulsory requirement. NABL boasts the largest number of laboratories in Tamil Nadu, totaling around 700 and surpassing all other southern states.
NABL has entered into MoUs with laboratories in numerous nations. He mentioned that exporters are now required to obtain only the NABL certification to qualify for exporting their products.

The lab has a skilled team of analysts led by K. Singaravadivel, who used to be the Director of the National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management, Thanjavur. Most food items such as grains, legumes, grains, lentils, flour, seeds, cooking oil, spice blends, seasonings, and nuts were examined in the lab following the regulations set by the Food Safety and Standards Act.
