Marble Springs State Historic Site, Knoxville, TN - June 14, 2024: Marble Springs State Historic Site invites the public to attend the third event in the "Beyond Petticoats" series. This lecture, presented by Cari Welsh, will delve into the pivotal yet often overlooked roles of women in the backcountry during the American Revolutionary War. The lecture will explore the lives of figures such as Catherine Sherrill Sevier and other courageous women who navigated immense challenges, supported the revolutionary cause, and influenced the war effort and American society.

The "Beyond Petticoats" series launched in April with a program on 18th-century clothing, followed by a May event focused on the uses of the kitchen garden. These programs have attracted a diverse audience, demonstrating a growing interest in the multifaceted roles women played during the 18th century, from fashion and textiles to sustenance and household management.

Marble Springs State Historic Site, the last home and farm of John Sevier, Tennessee's first governor, provides a unique backdrop for these educational programs. Recognized on the National Register of Historic Places, Marble Springs has been a significant educational resource for over 50 years, offering tours, historical reenactments, and special events.
