Things to do Before Getting Started With Surfing

Surfing is one of the coolest sports out there, which is what makes so many people every year pick up this sport.

Surfing is an experience of a lifetime. Surfing is fun, highly addictive and gives all the excitement and adrenaline rush of an extreme activity and sport. The benefits of surfing goes beyond personal circumstances, it can offer a whole lot more than being just a sport. At the same time, there’s no escaping the fact that learning to surf LA requires a good amount of effort and commitment.

In the somewhat protected environment of a surf lesson, you make steady progress, with the assistance of your coach that makes many of the critical decisions with you. In addition to that, they provide a suitable board and wetsuit, read the weather forecast to set the best lesson time, evaluate the beach upon arrival and then take you to the most suitable and safe area. Whether or not you will become an able surfer happens only after your surf lessons have been completed, it all depends on you.

Here are a few things you should check out before you start surfing:

Swimming- If you are a novice in surfing, you need to be proficient in swimming. Don’t worry, you don’t need to be a pro at it though. This is crucial because surfers need to be comfortable in the water.

Type of Wetsuit- Type of wetsuit depends on the prevalent weather conditions and your comfort level. You should purchase something that keeps you warm, makes you feel at ease and fits you like a glove.

Encounters with Nature in The Sea- Pay attention to local wildlife in the area you intend to surf, many spots are known for local dolphins passing close by to the surfers.

Protective Gear- Protective gear for surfing will ensure your safety at all times. So get your hands on all that you need, including the leash, wax, sunscreen and wetsuit. A surf-hot and using earplugs are additional safety measures.

Waxing Surfboards- Balancing and sticking on the surfboard becomes easier if you wax the top side of your surfboard. However, if you get a foam board (ideal choice for beginners), this step isn’t necessary.

Your First Time- Surfing is challenging but don’t let the first try scare you. It’s a long way ahead, and before you know it you can be an expert at the sport (of course, with many hours of practice and your level of dedication). It is very important to not get discouraged or lose motivation. Every day is different and there’s always another wave!

After the first time, you may feel sore like you would after a good workout. Active recovery can improve your condition. Use caution when trying surfing if you have injuries or certain medical conditions. If unsure, consider consulting with your doctor first.

All in all, when you are learning how to surf there are a few fundamental skills you’ll want to work on and develop before advancing to the next level. These include where to position yourself on the board, your pop-up, balance, paddle strength, endurance, and so on.
