Through film, discussion, and a guided letter writing experience we’ll explore the pain, healing, and joy possible at our roots. If you experience multi-gender attraction this event was made for you! If you are family, be it chosen or family of origin, of a person who is bi+\queer and you want to understand them better, welcome! If you want to join Good Trouble Makers in this multifaceted experience, see you there!

Part One: the world premiere of Dear Mom a visceral and touching movement film inspired by the sometimes painful love of a parent not understanding their queer child. Funded by The City of West Hollywood.

Part Two: A discussion about healing family wounds between parents and their queer children. Do you have a family member you wish could embrace your queer identity, or do you have a queer family member and you want some inspiration on how to help them feel like they belong? Don’t miss this discussion!

Part Three: A personal and private guided letter writing experience where you will get to say all the things you’ve never said to a family member who harmed your developing sense of queer identity. You have the option to send the letter to the person you’re writing to if your current relationship allows and they are living. But if not, there is so much power and healing possible in purging painful stories from ourselves by writing them down. Maybe you want to share it with a friend or therapist, we heal better when we do it together.

*Terms: bi+/queer refers to all people who experience multi-gender attraction
The definition of bi+/queer is trans inclusive: Attraction to more than one gender, not attraction to men and women as is commonly believed.

Accessibility: ASL interpretation will be provided. Dear Mom the film has no dialogue Please contact [email protected] with any specific access needs.

Content Warning: The film contains images of drowning and covers material that could be triggering to those with family abuse trauma and or trauma related to filicide. While potentially emotionally intense, over the course of the event we'll share how trauma can sometimes be healed, and guide participants through a trauma sensitive letter writing practice. Care has gone into making sure that Dear Mom is well modulated and thoughtful, and we encourage all participants to care for themselves with compassionate attention throughout the event and afterwards.

Good Trouble Makers (GTM), led by Kai Hazelwood, are queer artist-agitators spinning a web of community and creative mischief, through collaboration, across the world. GTM is a flexible collaborative that invites creative relationships with individuals or communities, for a moment, a season, or a lifetime. Inspired by the words of John Lewis, Good Trouble Makers are committed to making; making art, making room, making change, making good trouble.
Good Trouble Makers are proud cultural standard bearers for people who experience *multi-gender attraction; if you have ever felt like you had to choose between being *BIPOC or *queer, were ‘not queer enough’ for queer spaces, and isolated or fetishized in straight ones, we see you, we are you, and we can’t wait to meet you!
We use art to conjour, and create joyful community because, to put it bluntly: it’s not about a seat at their table, fuck the table, let’s dance on it, to music of our own making, and together use its materials to create something better; something that leaves no one behind, and is all our own.

*We use the terms BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), queer, and bi+ in our community, and recognize they are not problem free or universal. We respect and welcome whatever language feels best to describe your own identity.
*We define Bi+ as anyone who experiences multi-gender attraction. Our definition is not limited by particular gender expression, or a binary idea of gender.
