Nokado School of Self Defense, a traditional Jiu Jitsu martial arts studio serving the Kings Park community for over 45 years, will host a free self-defense class on Saturday, June 21 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, with proceeds benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association®.
Open to individuals ages 12 and up, the class will be led by Head Instructor Michael Saltzman and will cover practical self-defense techniques designed to promote safety, awareness, and confidence. No prior martial arts experience is needed, and all skill levels are welcome.
This unique event offers participants the chance to learn real-world skills while supporting a meaningful cause. The Alzheimer’s Association® is a nationwide leader in Alzheimer’s care, support, and research, and proceeds from the event will go directly toward advancing its mission.
The event continues a long-standing tradition at Nokado of offering free self-defense classes as a way of giving back to the community. Since taking over the school in 2022, Mr. Saltzman has turned these events into fundraisers for the Alzheimer’s Association® in memory of his father, who passed away from complications related to dementia. Held in connection with The Longest Day®, the Alzheimer’s Association’s annual summer solstice fundraiser, the class is part of a nationwide effort to fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s through community-driven events that support care, research, and advocacy.
“I’m proud to offer this class to give back to the community and support an important cause,” Mr. Saltzman said. “It’s a meaningful event that raises awareness for Alzheimer’s and teaches practical skills that could one day make a real difference in someone’s life.”
The event will take place at Nokado School of Self Defense, located at 48 Main Street in Kings Park. While the class is free to attend, a suggested donation of $20 will be collected to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association®.
