BEHIND THE RACIAL DISPARITIES IN THE US CHILD-WELFARE SYSTEM

There are significant racial disparities in involvement with child protective services.

In 2024 it may offer no surpise racial disparities of black and brown families in the US. Within the last year, an article by JANELL ROSS was written titled, "One in Ten Black Children in America Are Separated From Their Parents by the Child-Welfare System. A New Book Argues That’s No Accident".

It's a really great read. And sad. The sad state of black children being separate by federal government is astounding. And now, more and more organizations are speaking out about the unfair treatment to black parents. And according to Social Work Academic Journal, Volume 67, Issue 2, April 2022, Pages 191–195,Systemic racism (referred to interchangeably here as institutional racism) provides validation for White racist beliefs about people of color, often using knowledge produced by institutions dominated by powerful white ideals and actors as justification (Feagin & Bennefield, 2014). The Cognitive Institute of Dallas is joining forces with With Healthy Families First Broadcasting Media [https://whff.tv] to begin addressing mainstay problems.

Black children are likewise twice as likely to spend time in foster care than white children (10 percent vs. 5 percent).

We invite parents to tell their stories. Disproportionality is defined as "the over- or under-representation of a racial or ethnic group in the total population." Our goal is to continue to call on the Department of Family and Protective Services to address disproportionality. ...
