Innsbruck-based klimafit launches accredited Carbon Literacy Training to help Austria achieve climate neutrality by 2040

To build an understanding of climate change and impacts in Austria, klimafit has launched a new Carbon Literacy course offered in German and English. Online courses starting on 9 March 2023 (English) and 13 March 2023 (German).

As skiers, snowboarders, and winter tourism businesses in Austria know only too well, too much or too little snow is just as much an impact of global warming as are the record-breaking heat waves and extreme weather events that are becoming increasingly common across the country. Many feel that the need for action on climate change is clear and compelling. That’s why training expert klimafit has launched its “Carbon Literacy for Sustainable Futures” course. The one-day course combines theory, practical exercises, and real-world case studies of innovative solutions from Austria to equip individuals and businesses with strategies to reduce their carbon footprint and meaningfully contribute to climate change mitigation.

INNSBRUCK, TIROL, 22 February, 2023: klimafit is pleased to announce that its accredited “Carbon Literacy for Sustainable Futures” course was launched in February. The training company focuses all its efforts on making people aware of causes and consequences of climate change to encourage action and build resilience, and it believes that this new course will support Austria’s goal to achieve climate-neutrality by 2040.

klimafit's founder, Suzanne Whitby, believes that everyone deserves the chance to understand climate change. “Climate change is a global problem with local consequences that we are already experiencing here in Austria,” she says. “Many people want to do something to tackle climate change, but they don’t understand what the problem is and what actions really make a difference, so they get stuck. Our course bridges that gap.”

The solutions-focused “Carbon Literacy for Sustainable Futures” course covers everything from climate science to carbon footprints, local impacts to local projects in Austria that are already tackling the problem, and what actions have the most impact. Participants commit to one individual and one collective action to reduce CO2 emissions. They leave the course with an increased understanding of their role in tackling climate change and are energised and empowered to be part of the solution. The training course has been independently accredited by the well-known Carbon Literacy Project in the UK, and on successful completion of the training, participants will be awarded Carbon Literacy certification to recognise their achievement.

The “Carbon Literacy for Sustainable Futures” course is available as in-house training for organisations or community groups at the start of their sustainability journey. klimafit also offers a public version of the course for interested individuals, professionals, and smaller firms. The public course takes place over three interactive, online sessions so that people can join from anywhere in the country.

Registration is now open for the first two public courses, one in German (starting 13 March) and one in English (starting 9 March). The cost to attend the course is an affordable EUR150 per person and interested individuals and organisations can register quickly and easily on the klimafit website at www.klimafit.eu/events.

About klimafit:
At klimafit, we believe that everyone has a role to play in creating a sustainable future and achieving carbon neutrality in Austria.

Through our training and experiential events, we help individuals, communities and organisations understand the consequences of a warming world and what we can do in the face of climate change. We believe that by focusing on solutions, individual and collective agency, and action, we can reduce climate anxiety, and encourage people to adapt their thinking and behaviours in ways that meaningfully contribute to climate change mitigation.
Our Carbon Literacy for Sustainable Futures course is the first carbon literacy training to focus on Austria and the only one in the DACH region to be accredited by The Carbon Literacy Project. Based in Manchester, UK, the Carbon Literacy Project has been helping individuals and organisations to become more aware of how to reduce the CO2 emissions since 2012.

Our climate communication toolkit also includes a range of experiential learning offerings, such as Climate Fresk workshops, Climate Policy Simulation workshops, Climate Conversation Cafés, and Deep Time Walks, which we add to regularly.

We are based in the beautiful city of Innsbruck and run courses and workshops in both English and German across Austria and Europe.
