Uber in Mumbai is currently at loggerheads with the Government of Mumbai. Uber is fighting to stop some of the rules proposed by the government that is bound to make things a little difficult for Uber drivers in Mumbai.

Mumbai residents are in alliance with Uber in this fight- a welcome relief that will sustain Uber's confidence in this ‘war’.

The Government of Maharashtra (whose capital city is Mumbai) released a draft of their regulation put together for the city’s taxi scheme. These rules and regulations mandate that ride hailing companies like Uber and Ola in Maharashtra use either CNG, hybrid or electric drive-trains. These rules also propose exact fares that ride hailing companies will be allowed to charge customers.

Uber in Mumbai will have to pay Rs 50 lakh per 1000 vehicles to continue operating in the city. Also, permits are being issued by the government at a cost of Rs 2.61 lakh, which seems quite high compared to what drivers with Uber in Mumbai stand to earn.

Uber, displeased with the situation has started an electronic petition to gather enough votes and support to put an end to Maharashtra Government’s proposed regulations for taxi aggregators. Uber in Mumbai, who was hoping to gather just 60,000 votes through the online campaign has since passed the mark. Currently, this petition which Uber plans to send to the government has gathered over 72,000 signatures and counting.

Uber stated that, “These proposals will mean higher prices and longer wait times for riders... They will also threaten the livelihood of thousands of hard working drivers." Long waiting periods will drastically increase Uber user dissatisfaction. This is enough incentive to get Uber fans and other ride sharing lovers to append their signatures to the petition in order to keep ride sharing companies operating in Mumbai.

How To Avoid Long Waiting Periods With Uber

One way to escape the long queue online for Uber drivers is by scheduling your rides ahead. Delay in securing an Uber driver can occur as a result of shortage of drivers (as mentioned above) or due to surge periods (too many ride requests). The Uber surge app comes into play as Uber taxi fares increase during surge periods. Riders are presented with up to 3X the fares during these periods. All these situations can be avoided when you book Uber ahead through the Kommen app.

The Kommen app offers Uber booking services that allows users request rides ahead. You can request rides 15 minutes to 30 days ahead. The Kommen ensures that passengers can schedule Uber ahead in every Uber city. The app is seamless and can function independently without the Uber app. All you have to do is ensure you create an Uber account, and then sign into the Kommen app once with you Uber app login details. Once you sign in once, you don’t have to sign in again.
