Phil Eitman Celebrates a Career of Doing What He Loves

Phil Eitman is a professional cook and surf instructor.

Phil Eitman is a man who was gifted with the advantage of knowing what he wanted to do with his life at an early age, as well as with the ability to take that knowledge and focus on it so he could one day become a professional who specializes in the very things that bring joy to his life. Doing what you love is often a dream for many people, who tend to find more profitability in other things and get distracted on their way to becoming the person they wanted to be. By keeping things simple and not letting himself get lured away with the promise of more money and security, Phil Eitman has achieved a lifelong career that is gainful both financially and emotionally.

Cooking
As a formally trained chef, Phil Eitman has had experience in many different types of kitchens in restaurants, country clubs, food trucks and other capacities. In school he studied baking and mixology, which were supplemented with his experience as a pastry chef, bartender and competitive bottle twirler. The day he first experimented with BBQ, however, was very much a transformative experience. He decided he wanted to master the art of cooking bbq in the different styles defined by America’s southern regions, and went off on a quest to do exactly so. He worked in an Outer Banks bbq shack, which influenced the Carolina-style pulled pork recipe he uses today. He then went to Memphis, where he started to craft his own molasses-based sauce that he brushes on his ribs. Finally, he lived in Texas and mastered the art of smoking a deliciously juicy and tender beef brisket.

Snowboarding
Phil Eitman’s catering service is based out of Salt Lake City, Utah; which just so happens to be one of the premiere snowboarding destinations not only on the North American continent, but also among the world. He often goes riding at one of the nearby resorts before or after work, as his unconventional schedule allows him to squeeze in a few hours each day throughout the week so he doesn’t have to deal with the excessive crowding during the weekend.
