The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) has today released the latest Primary Disability Data Snapshot, providing vital insights into the demographic, service usage, and outcome trends across participants in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). This comprehensive data release reaffirms the NDIA’s commitment to evidence-based policy development and transparent reporting that strengthens outcomes for people with disability in Australia.
It reveals valuable information about participant age distribution, plan budgets, support types accessed, and the geographic spread of services. For instance, autism remains the most common primary disability among participants aged 7 to 14, while psychosocial disability features more prominently among older participants. The report also highlights growth in access to early intervention supports and improved engagement in employment and community participation across multiple cohorts.
The release of this data plays a crucial role in informing sector-wide planning, service delivery, and research. By identifying areas of high demand and emerging needs, the NDIA enables providers, planners, and stakeholders to tailor services more effectively and improve participant experiences. Importantly, the data also supports continuous improvement within the Scheme by identifying equity gaps and performance benchmarks across jurisdictions.
NDIA CEO Rebecca Falkingham emphasised the value of the snapshot: “This data provides us with a clearer understanding of how the Scheme is evolving and how we can better support participants to achieve their goals. We remain committed to transparency, and to using this data to shape a stronger and fairer NDIS.”
The Primary Disability Data Snapshot is now available on the NDIA website and will be updated regularly to ensure ongoing accessibility to relevant insights. Stakeholders across government, academia, and the community are encouraged to utilise these findings to inform policy development, funding priorities, and service design initiatives.
