Semi-rigid melamine foam is a type of foam plastic, which refers to a foam plastic with an elastic modulus of 70~700MPa. The bulk density is very low, which can reduce the packaging weight and reduce transportation costs. It has excellent impact and vibration energy absorption, and can greatly reduce product damage when used in cushioning and shock-proof packaging. It has strong adaptability to changes in temperature and humidity and can meet the requirements of general packaging conditions. It has low water absorption, low hygroscopicity, good chemical stability, will not cause corrosion to the contents, and has strong tolerance to chemicals such as acids and alkalis. It has low thermal conductivity and can be used for thermal insulation packaging, such as ice cream cups, fast food containers and insulated fish boxes.

Semi-rigid melamine foam plastic is easy to mold and process, and can be made into various foam liners, foam blocks, sheets, etc. by molding, extrusion, injection and other molding methods. It is easy to carry out secondary molding processing. For example, foam sheets can be made into various fast food containers by thermoforming.

Semi-rigid melamine foam, in addition to all the characteristics of flexible melamine foam, also has high hardness and high compression stress: at 30% and 50% compression, the compression stress can reach: 30kpa and 45kpa respectively. It has very perfect data among the same type of foam. It can be compressed and can provide continuous support and vibration damping for the components in the battery pack for a long time.

Semi-rigid melamine foam can be used as the core material of vacuum insulation panels due to its excellent properties. Vacuum insulation panel is a kind of vacuum insulation material, which can effectively avoid heat transfer caused by air convection and greatly reduce the thermal conductivity. Vacuum insulation panels are mainly composed of core materials, barrier films and getters, and the core material is the key factor that determines the insulation performance of vacuum insulation panels. Common core materials include particle core materials, foam core materials, fiber core materials, composite core materials, etc. Vacuum insulation panels are mainly used for thermal insulation, such as household refrigerators, yacht refrigerators, mini refrigerators, car refrigerators, deep-freezers, electric water heaters, vending machines, freezers, refrigerated containers, building wall insulation, LNG storage and transportation, etc.

The core material is one of the main components of the vacuum insulation panel. It is generally made of porous media materials and processed through special processes. Common core materials mainly include particle core materials, foam core materials, fiber core materials and composite core materials. The functions of the core material mainly include three aspects. First, it serves as structural support to prevent the vacuum insulation panel from shrinking and collapsing under internal vacuum conditions; second, it prevents thermal radiation; and third, it reduces the occurrence of heat conduction. Because it is a porous material and has a small contact area, it can effectively reduce heat transfer due to thermal conduction. Semi-rigid melamine foam combines excellent sound absorption properties, flame retardant properties, thermal conductivity properties, wide weather resistance, high hardness, high compressive stress, chemical resistance, environmental protection and good secondary processing and molding properties. It is the first choice material for the core material of vacuum insulation panels.

In addition, semi-rigid melamine foam can also be used for thermal insulation and cushioning protection of new energy batteries. Semi-rigid melamine foam battery insulation pad has excellent heat insulation and buffering functions. It is mainly used for thermal protection between power lithium battery cells. It can prevent thermal runaway of the cells and greatly improve the rideability of new energy vehicles. When one of the cells undergoes thermal runaway, the thermal insulation pad between the cells can block the transfer of heat to the adjacent cells and prevent heat diffusion, thereby avoiding the domino effect of thermal runaway of new energy power battery cells. The semi-rigid melamine foam thermal insulation pad also has good compression properties. While insulating, it can also be used as a buffer material between battery cells to adapt to the expansion and contraction of the battery cells during the charging and discharging process.
