On Wednesday 17 August 2019, the Florida Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters met in Naples, Florida to continue their job of coordinating and unifying the disaster response community. This will create faster response time and groups that can operate together smoothly, without the delay of a "courtship" period.
The Chair, Jessica Geilb, of the Salvation Army welcomed all and introductions were made. Then the minutes were read by Secretary Judy Fargerman, of the Church of Scientology of Tampa, and representing Churches of Scientology Disaster Response. Treasurer Wayne Tracey, of Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints, updated the group regarding the balance sheet.
There were reports and updates from National VOAD, State and Local Emergency Management, and Volunteer Florida. Then each agency had 3 to 4 minutes to update the group on their activities.
The training this quarter was about how to track and report volunteer hours, given by Taylor Robinson of Sigma.
This is just one way that the Disaster Response Community stays active and engaged in helping our citizens.
