There are those moments in life when we wake up in our own special way. No, this is not the political "woke", but perhaps it informs how we see the world... . There is that recognition, usually when we are very young, that there is some kind of magic in our world. Maybe it is when we see sunlight shining through green leaves, seeing how it glows and perhaps feeling the difference of the heat on our face between the green filtered light and the bright direct light, and we are aware that we are noticing it. This is joy, simply. It is also the beginning of a lifelong, if we are lucky, practical ability; the ability to observe.
This ability to observe can be honed. To watch, perceive, notice are aspects of observing, and are the first steps to being able to participate in living. The world becomes ours in this way. We gain and give life to our creations. We become competent in the world. Indeed, in an essay on competence in The Way To Happiness, L. Ron Hubbard says, "See what you see, not what someone tells you that you see." In this way one is directly connected to life around him. www.thewaytohappiness.org @waytohappinesstampa
