Transplant India, a non-profit organ transplant organisation has been involved in providing the required transplant services to the needy from organs donated by living donors and providing financial support for the poor. As it is enshrined in the mission of the firm,
"Provide financial help to poor patients requiring organ transplants as a life-saving option, raise public awareness through education and media to help increase organ donation and engage with other stakeholders in the field".
The organisation is led by started in Mumbai perpetually endeavours to help people.
Organ transplantation in India is done under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act,1994 to regulate removal, storage and transplantation of human organs so as to prevent its commercial dealing and hence preventing exploitation of the vulnerable. In India, Organ by living donors is not even 0.01% with an additional high burden of demand against supply. According to the Health Ministry, 6000 Renal transplants are done in face of 1.8 lakh transplant needs. The number stands at 1500 vs 30,000 for liver transplant and one-tenth and one-fourth of heart and cornea transplant needs are being fulfilled respectively. Lack of supply, in turn, leads to an exponential increase in the cost of transplants costing on an average 10-20 lakh Indian rupees which is roughly a hundred times the median salary or almost fifteen times the average monthly income.
The situation is of stark acuteness marred by the social stigma around the topic of organ transplantation and requires a calibrated response to deal with it. The need spurred Transplant India into action to launch a coordinated campaign to tackle the problem holistically while providing cost-effective solutions. The organisation believes more in practising than merely preaching by being a frontrunner and providing unrivalled solution-driven approaches for other players to work upon.
They have collaborated with various nodal agencies as well as NGOs like the MOHAN foundation and the Ketto foundation, another non-for-profit organ transplant organisation to launch the visionary initiative Joint Efforts to Enable Transplants (JEET). It primarily aims at the fast delivery of organs donated by living donors by creating a sustainable ecosystem to provide affordable services to the poor by working hand in hand with like-minded partners. The group has been involved in various efforts to educate people to shed off the taboo surrounding this topic by constantly engaging with audiences through various social media platforms. The purpose of such a wide-ranging effort is to improve the quality of life of citizens in the long run by imparting solutions that are in accordance with current requirements. They engage in crowdfunding for need-based transplants and their work continues to fill the lives of people with rays of hope.
