Hiphop is a music genre that speaks to many. Do you think you are one of them?

Do you love listening to Hiphop and jam to it? Well, you are not the only one, most of us have our Hiphop beat on our devices. Also, we do have our favorite artists. But today, we will be discussing the history of Hiphop. As a music lover, you would want to learn about its styles and genres. This PR blog aims to satisfy your curiosity.

This music genre was introduced to the world by Latino American and African American artists during the 1970s. If we are to pinpoint the exact location, it would be the Bronx.

Normally, when we hear these songs, we focus on three components:
1. Rapping (saying words or sentences within the music as per the rhythmic beats).
2. Using turntables to create a scratching effect.
3. Dancing break-dance to the rhythm of these songs.

But this genre has some sub-genres, each with its distinctive styles.
● Gangsta
Yes, sings belonging to this genre is usually about gangsters, street crimes, or criminals. Also, it touches on the subjects of oppression of Latino Americans, and African American people in the USA.
Here, the singer or the DJ will rap or say rhythmically about these people. Do they glorify this lifestyle, as per some critics? No, I don't think so.

● Frat rap
As the name suggests, they are mainly associated with college frat parties. Like these parties, they are raucous and wild, and they don't seem to stand out like the rest and stand the test of time.

● Emo rap
Mostly known for its aggressive nature, it can express sensitive messages too. People say that the sub-genre is mostly masculine, but female artists have reveled in it.

● Drill
It is a newer addition to the family, only a decade old. Some people can't seem to distinguish between trap and drill, but there is a subtle difference.

Artists seem to emphasize different components, whilst singing those songs. Also, they seem to showcase different attitudes during their performances.

● Conscious Hiphop
In this genre, artists usually talk about social, political, and contemporary issues to spread awareness about them. Several artists have produced classics of this category.
● Backpack
This is mainly the non-commercialized version. Music fans from the early 70s were obsessed with it.
These are some subcategories, each with popular classics, distinctive taste, and fan base. However, the list has not ended yet. We wi discuss other categories very soon.
