History of Credit Bank
Originally, the Credit Bank was founded in the year 1986. It was considered as a non-bank financial institution or NBFI and was named Credit Kenya Limited. However, in the year 1995, this financial institution received the commercial banking license and came to be known as Credit Bank Limited.

It should be noted that the stock shares of Credit Bank are privately owned. Most importantly, this bank does not disclose the ownership details of the stocks publicly. As a result, nothing much is known about the detailed ownership of the bank.

Overview of Credit Bank of Kenya
Kenya is considered to be one of the largest economies in East Africa. Credit Bank is a small sized commercial bank of the country. Before the year 2010, the bank mainly focused on attracting bigger corporations and rich businessmen to keep money with them. However, since September, 2010, the bank changed its policy and strategy. Henceforth, they got a makeover and changed itself to a retail bank. Once they became a retail bank, they started serving people from different strata of the society as well as their businesses. As per the data available, till December 2011, the total asset of Credit Bank was valued at around US$63.3 million (KES: 5.4 billion). Apart from this, the equity of the shareholders' was estimated at US$11.6 million (KES: 958 million). It should be noted here that the bank has tried to raise the shareholders' capital to US$18 million (KES: 1.5 billion), in the end of 2012.
