Paypal Shenanigans Put Single Mother at Risk

Paypal has long abused its discretion to freeze people's money and fraudulently inflate their company's value, but now they've gone too far.

When you type in Paypal Complaints or Paypal Fraud in any search engine, you hear the same complaints over and over again. This many people cannot be wrong. Paypal abuses its "discretion" on a regular basis. No financial institution in the world is allowed to operate in this manner. It makes you wonder why they are granted so much freedom?

Why hasn't the government stepped in? It's beyond bizarre. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is taking legal action against Paypal. They announced they filed a complaint in federal court against Paypal. This complaint relates to Paypal credit. Apparently Paypal is being accused of failing to honor "deceptively advertisements". Sound familiar?

This is just the tip of the iceberg with Paypal. They have countess victims. One story is about a single mother. It's very sad and our heart goes out to her. The young lady is a digital marketing consultant who works out of her home. She quit her job after she found out her employer was ripping off the elderly. Her employer paid her various ways including Paypal, check, and bank wire. She quit after she received her final pay via Paypal.

The payment came in two payments of $2,000 each. Her employer told her that by sending two payments of $2,000, he didn't have to bother with entering his social security number, etc. She accepted what he said. Paypal immediately froze the second payment. She was not aware because she hadn't checked. Once she quit her job, her boss was very angry and decided to dispute the payments she had already worked for.

Paypal immediately refunded $2,000, no questions asked. Paypal opened a case for unauthorized use. Both sides were asked to submit documents. The single mother had her pay history and daily notes from her work. Paypal's investigation showed no unauthorized access or use and the single mother won the case.

Paypal then abused its discretion by keeping her locked out of her account. They kept asking her to submit information and she did so. Every time she completed the list, more requests were added. Finally, Paypal accused her of being connected to three accounts, all with different @aol e-mail addresses, and said she owed them $500. She disputed this.

Then, Paypal came back and said no she wasn't associated with the three accounts, she was associated with one account that owed them $600. She disputed this. She maintains she is not associated with any of these accounts and Paypal has no proof to the contrary. Even if she was, it does not explain why they held $2,000.

Finally, she was able to get e-mail addresses for several Paypal executives, including Dan Leberman (Paypal Small Business) and Linda Dugan (Paypal VP). She said "You have backed me into a corner and I have no choice but to sue you for this." Paypal reacted by refunding the $2,000 to the employer and the theft was complete. What they did was very wrong.

Paypal has a long history of abusing their discretion and abusing their customers. It has to stop. When will the government step in and stop them? They are not above the law. The law applies to them.
